In 2008, after he was accused of drug trafficking, he decided to start pursuing a career in music. Scooter is a childhood friend with fellow Atlanta Rapper Future.

Scooter's real breakthrough came in January 2013 when he released his mixtape Street Lottery . SPIN named it "Rap release this week" and XXL shows it in the "January Best Mixtapes" list. Eric Diep of XXL calls Scooter "one of the hottest street rappers from Atlanta" and writes that songs like singles "Colombia" and "Street Lottery" (featuring Bun B) are "evidence of his undeniable talent". The recording was also a viral success of getting over 100,000 downloads at DatPiff. The official video for "Colombia", directed by Decatur Dan, aired on MTV on January 31st. The song is a hit in the south, especially in the home town of Scooter, Atlanta. Brandon Soderberg of SPIN classified it as a mixture of Rick Ross '"Hustlin'" and Future's "Tony Montana". At the end of the month, official remixes with rapper Rick Ross, Birdman and Gucci Mane were released. Lil Wayne also covered the song for his mixtape Dedication 5 . The recent rapper's success prompted OnSmash to declare "the buzz for Scooter is at an all-time high." On April 8th, Scooter was arrested for breaking parole.

Music styles
Scooter is known for his free style rap, without writing the lyrics, similar to Gucci Mane. He has defined his style as "musical count," and explains it in an interview with Complex: "I do not really care what I say by beating that long about money. When you try to think hard and write it out, that's when it gets messed up."
The lyrical themes of Scooters are mostly about money and medicine. David Drake of Complex compares his "skyrocketing skyrocketing" tackle with Young Jeezy, though he notes that Scooter does not have "all-encompassing splendor" from fellow Atlantamen.
Scooters are influenced by famous hip-hop artists like Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Diddy.
Legal issues
Young Scooter was arrested for a trial period offense during a traffic stop in DeKalb County, Georgia, on April 8, 2013. According to HipHopDX, Scooter shared a prison cell with frequent collaborators Gucci Mane, who was arrested for a probationary offense on April 12, 2013. Scooter spent six months behind bars before being released in mid-October 2013. On March 2, 2015 Young Scooters were released from the experiment.
