The Pembroke Welsh Corgi ( ; Welsh for "dwarf dogs") is a breed of herded cattle originating from Pembrokeshire, Wales. This is one of two breeds known as the Welsh Corgi. The other is the Welsh Corgi Cardigan, and both descend from a line that is a northern spitz breed of dog (for example included from Siberian Husky). Another theory is that Pembrokes is descended from Swedish Vallhund, which is crossed with local Welsh dogs herding. Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a younger of two breeds Corgi and is a separate breed and different from Cardigan. Corgi is one of the smallest dogs in the Herding Group. Pembroke Welsh Corgis is famous for being the type favored by Queen Elizabeth II, who has had more than 30 during her reign. These dogs have been favored by British nobles for over seventy years, but among the British people, have recently fallen into decline in terms of popularity and demand.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi has been ranked # 11 in Stanley Coren Dog Intelligence , and per source, is considered a very good work dog. According to the American Kennel Club, Pembroke Welsh Corgis is ranked 20th most popular dog race in 2015.

Description

Appearance

Pembroke Welsh Corgi warehouse, often every day with a "blow out" mantle often twice a year. The Welsh Corgi Pembroke has an upright ear that is proportional to the equilateral triangle of the head. The ear must be firm, medium in size, and slightly tapered to a round point. The head should be foxy in shape and appearance. The Welsh Corgis Pembroke is different from the Welsh Corgi Cardigan because of its shorter length, has smaller ears, and slightly more straight legs. Pembroke Welsh Corgi has a "fairy saddle", a slightly lighter mark on each side of the withers caused by changes in thickness, length, and direction of hair growth. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi warehouse is mostly in spring and autumn and can shed every year, with females intact shedding during heat.

Breed errors exist; some of which may recognize genetic health conditions such as Corgis's "fluffies" with very long coats, and "bluies," which have a watery color (red coats present with bluish casts).

Some Pembroke Welsh Corgis are born with their tail naturally short or missing. Others may have their tails transported between 2-5 days due to historical tradition or as a measure of conformation with Breed Standard. Artificial docking was born due to the need to remember the function of Pembroke as a shepherd dog in England. According to the Tax Law, any companion dog is considered a luxury and pet owners/companions are taxed. Dog owners, however, who keep dogs for work purposes such as grazing are exempt from taxes. To claim the release, the owner must make sure the dogs are docked or swinging. The Kennel Club, the United Kennel Club, and FCI allow the whole tail in the Conformation event. The AKC standard states the tail should be anchored no more than 2 inches (5 cm). In many countries, docking has been considered illegal.

Temperament

Pembroke Welsh Corgis is very affectionate, loves to engage in family, and tends to follow wherever the owner goes. They have a great desire to please their owners, thus making them eager to learn and practice. The dogs are easily trained and classed as the 11th smartest dog in Stanley Coren. The Intelligence of Dogs. In addition to herding, they also function as a watchdog because of their vigilance and their tendency to bark only when necessary. Most Pembrokes will seek the attention of everyone they meet and behave well around children and other pets. It is important to socialize this type with other animals, adults and children when they are very young to avoid anti-social behavior or aggression in the future. Because their instinct leads them, they like to pursue whatever moves, so it's best to keep them inside the fenced area. Herding instinct will also cause some young Pembrokes to bite their owner's ankles.

Health

Pembrokes has an average life expectancy of 12-15 years. The Welsh Corgis Pembroke is achondroplastic, which means they are a true "dwarf ork" breed. Thus, their stature and build can cause certain health conditions that are not inherited, but genetic issues should also be considered. Generally, Pembrokes may suffer from monorchidism, Von Willebrand's disease, hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy (DM), and inherited eye problems such as progressive retinal atrophy. Genetic tests are available for Pembroke Welsh Corgis to avoid these problems and improve genetic health. Pembrokes is also vulnerable to obesity because of its strong appetite, characteristic of the sheep breeds.

History

The Wrosh Corps of Pembroke Welsh line has been traced back to 1107 AD. It is said that Viking and Flemish weavers bring dogs with them while they travel to live in Wales. As far back as the 10th century, the corgis herded sheep, geese, ducks, horses, and cattle as one of the oldest sheepdogs.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis is closely related to Schipperkes, Keeshonds, Pomeranians, Samoyeds, Chow Chows, Norwegian Elkhounds, and Finnish Spitz. Pembrokes and Cardigans first appeared together in 1925 when they were shown under the rules of The Kennel Club in England. Corgi Club was founded in December 1925 in Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire. It was reported that local members liked the Pembroke breeding, so the club for Cardigan fans was founded about a year later. Both groups have worked hard to ensure the appearance and type of breeds are standardized through selective breeding carefully. Pembrokes and Cardigans were officially recognized by the Kennel Club in 1928 and were originally categorized together under one title from Welsh Corgis, before two breeds were recognized separately and differently in 1934.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis is becoming more popular in the United States and is ranked 20th (24th) in American Kennel Club registration, by 2015 (2012). However, corgis is now listed as a "vulnerable breed" in the UK; The decline has been said for the 2007 ban on tail-docking in Britain, as well as the lack of breeders in the UK.
