Histori
In February 2011, the Lafarge cement company and Anglo American mining company agreed to combine their UK material construction business. The deal is set to merge Anglo American's Anglo American Tarmac unit, employing 4,500 people, with Lafarge cement, concrete and aggregate mines, depots and terminals.
Due to the size of the business, the Fair Trade Office referred it to the UK Competition Commission, which concluded in May 2012 that, due to potential loss of competition in aggregate markets, asphalt, cement and ready-mix concrete, some of their assets must be sold.
In November 2012, Lafarge and Anglo American agreed to sell British assets worth à £ 285 million to Mittal Investments. In December of that year, the Anglo American Tarmac unit became Hope Ready Mixed Concrete Limited, while Lafarge's assets became Hope Cement Limited. The deal was completed in January 2013 with the creation of Hope Construction Materials.
The two companies, Hope Cement Limited, and Hope Ready Mixed Concrete Limited, are traded under the name Hope Construction Materials ; both entities merged on April 1, 2014, creating the Limited Hope Construction Materials.
On November 18, 2015, Breedon Aggregates announced the acquisition of Hope Construction Materials for Ã, à £ 336 million, and finalized the agreement on 1 August 2016 after approval from the Competition and Market Authority.
