Nick Tahou Hots is a Rochester, New York restaurant featuring a dish called Garbage Plate. The restaurant was founded in 1918 by Alex Tahou, the grandfather of the 21st-century owner (also named Alex Tahou), and named for Nick Tahou, the founding son, who operated the establishment until his death in 1997. While there are others in the Upstate New York Variants , Nick Tahou is the originator of the trademarked Trash Can.

A Charity Garbage Charter Garbage is sponsored by University of Rochester Sigma Phi Epsilon. Held each year in spring, this three-man race begins at the U of R River Campus. The first of the team members run 2.2 miles through town to Nick Tahou. Once they arrived, the second teammate ate the Trash Can as soon as they were able, then the last team mate returned to campus to finish the race. In the contest titled "Ironman", the one-man team tries to complete the three tasks alone. The Mount Hope Family Center is the recipient of all the results collected during the event, including sponsor funding and entry fee of the contestant.
Other locations
In the mid-1950s, Nick Tahou's hot dog stand was located in a smaller building to the west of the old location. From 1979 to 2007, there were two restaurants Nick Tahou Hots in Rochester: one in downtown Rochester and a satellite restaurant on Lyell Avenue (NY Route 31) in Gates. In 2007, Steve Tahou and his sister Joanne Tahou-Demkou, the children of Ike Tahou (Nick's brother), had full ownership of the Lyell Avenue location and renamed it Steve T. Hots and Potatoes. Steve Tahou again uses the Rochester-based Zweigle hot dog and Italian sausage, which is used in Nick's original dump plate. The original West Main Street location continues to use the trademarked names "Nick Tahou" and "Garbage Plate", and continues to use the dogs Nick Sale Hot Dogs on their plates. As previously open all night, downtown restaurants start closing at 8pm. in 1998 in voluntary compliance with city efforts to reduce troublesome night spots. Steve T. remains open 24 hours a day.
There is also a short-lived Nick Tahou operation in Oswego, New York.
On August 3, 2010, the second location opened at 3070 West Henrietta Road (NYS Route 15), in the city of Henrietta, New York. It closes in early 2014.

Nick's has been featured on the Food Network's Unwrapped episode titled "Funny Foods" as well as a Monopoli-based "City in a Box" game featuring a famous Rochester local. The Garbage Plate was also highlighted in the July 2007 edition of the US Airways flight magazine. On November 16, 2009 episode of "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart told the Rochester people to "Get their heads out of their Trash Can." On February 23, 2011, the Food Network filmed a segment for "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" performance based on Pastry Chef Johnny Iuzzini's recommendations. In the 2012 movie The Place Beyond the Pines starring Ryan Gosling, Garbage Plates is called a "must" for Bradley Cooper's character when he travels through Rochester, New York.
In 2017, Youtuber Jenna Marbles (who grew up in Rochester) called Garbage Plates her favorite food and in "My Boyfriend Makes My Favorite Meal" got her boyfriend Julian Solomita to make it a vegan version. Another YouTuber and native Rochester, Andrew Rea from Binging with Babish, recreated the Garbage Plate in one of his weekly episodes.
