A Long Island Iced Tea is a kind of alcoholic beverage that is usually made with vodka, tequila, light rum, triple sec, gin, and cola splash, which gives the same yellow drink to the namesake. The popular version combines the same 3 parts of vodka, gin, rum, with the 1 1 / 2 section acids and cola splashes. Finally, it is decorated with lemons and straw, after stirring with a bar spoon smoothly.

Most variants use the same portion of the main liquor, but include an amount smaller than three seconds (or other orange-flavored drinks). Close variants often replace the sour mixture with lemon juice, replace the cola with the original cola diet or ice tea, or add white crÃÆ'¨me de menthe. Most variants do not include any tea.

This drink has a much higher alcohol concentration (about 22 percent) than most alcoholic beverages due to the relatively small amount of mixers.

Origin

Robert "Rosebud" Butt claimed to have found Long Island Iced Tea as an entry in the contest to create a new mixed drink with three seconds in 1972 when he worked at the Oak Beach Inn on Long Island, New York.

A slightly different drink is claimed to have been discovered in 1920 during the US Prohibition by "Old Man Bishop" in a local community called Long Island in Kingsport, Tennessee. The drink was then refined by Ransom Bishop, son of the old bishop. These drinks include whiskey and maple syrup, and a diverse quantity of five liquors, rather than modern ones with cola and five equal parts of five liquors.
