Hybrid martial arts , also known as the hybrid battle system or sometimes the eclectic martial art or the free-style fight , refers to martial arts or combat systems that combine techniques and theories of some particular martial arts (eclecticism). While many martial arts borrow or adapt from other arts and to some extent can be considered hybrids, hybrid martial arts emphasizes different origins.

The idea of hybridization or "mixing" of martial arts tradition dates from the 19th century to the beginning of the twentieth century, when the Asian tradition first became the concern of European practitioners.

This concept rose to widespread popularity during the 1960s and 1970s, with the development of Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do (1967) using aspects derived from various arts including Wing Chun and Western boxing; Kajukenbo (1947) which combines Karate, Judo/Jujitsu, Kenpo and Western Boxing; a modern kickboxing style that combines elements of Karate, Muay Thai and Western boxing; and Krav Maga, an Israeli military combat system and a self-defense system that combines Western boxing, savate, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, Judo, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and wrestling.

Mixed martial art

Since 1993, the hybridization of martial arts has reached its peak in the development of mixed martial arts (MMA), a practice that combines Brazilian fighting style Vale tudo and Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do, among others. It should be noted that Jeet Kune Do is actually the only philosophy that is often confused as a fighting style but actually represents the belief of using "no way" or the best way a person as a technique. This formless technique is outside the realm of street fighting or tournaments in the competition. The term mixed martial art , while in the literal sense synonymous, has come to refer to this specific combat sport.
