Gardetto is a light snack brand owned by General Mills, which also has a similar Chex Mix. The Gardetto Family Bakery was founded in 1932 in Wisconsin by Baptiste and Diane Gardetto and was acquired by General Mills in 1999; According to the packaging, it was at the bakery that Judy Gardetto picked up pieces of bread sticks and mixed them along with other snack pieces and a special spice mixture.
Today, Gardetto is sold under "authentic" recipes (albeit with the changes as listed below) as well as in the reduced original recipes, Italian recipes, Italian cheese mixes, Chipotle Cheddar, and deli-style mustard pretzels. Gardetto mixes do not contain nuts or traces of tree nuts, but contain wheat, milk, and soybeans.

Variations
In 2006, Gardetto released snacks "special requests" including only chocolate rye chips that are currently still sold in many places.
The discontinued varieties included a mixture of Sour Cream and Onion and Ranch, both replacing rye toast crackers with spiral cracker bits. Another favorite was eliminated after several years of production was Pizza Mix, which was later replaced by Italian Recipe.
In early 2013, General Mills removed the sesame seed breadstick from Gardetto's original recipe and replaced it with a different breadstick found in another popular snack mix issued by General Mills.
