A Eurohound (also known as Eurodog or Scandinavian hound ) is a type of dog raised for sled dog racing. The Eurohound is usually interbreeded from the Alaskan husky group and one of a number of pointed breeds ("pointers").

History

According to Egil Ellis, a top dog racer, various types of pointers have been popular with Swedish dog sled racers for at least the last 50 years, and Alaskan leather was imported into Sweden in the 1980s; crossbreeding shots and huskies begin to "come up with something new, something that is not in Alaska". "Eurohound is a cross between the Alaskan Scaller and the Alaskan Shorthaired Pointer... The cross first made it into the competitive racing world of racing dogs in Scandinavia." The Eurohound is not a pure race, and is not a dog breed, but a bulb that is constantly crossed out of pure race and mixed to produce dogs for certain walking conditions.

Crossbreeding

Instead of inbreeding look-alike dogs in order to create a new generation with a consistent appearance, the Eurohound race is crossbreed for certain work and health properties. Cross breeding involves breeding between two established breeds, with two gene pools bred but unrelated, and breeding the first generation back to one of the pure breed breeds. Cross-breeding is also done for heterosis purposes (hybrid power). The dogs most often used for Eurodog crosses are the pure German Shorthaired Pointer and English Pointers, other pointers, and Alaskan huskies (Gareth Wright line primarily) from the tightly enlarged sprint dog line used for racing.

A first generation Eurohound cross (fifty percent showing a breed, fifty percent hoarse) has a short coat, perfect for a sprint race, which does not involve resting or sleeping on the road. When the first-generation cross is crossed again with Alaska's husky, the generated generation can have a thick coat, perfect for long-distance teams. Most long distances prefer genetic bookmark only 1/8 on the dog for maximum performance. This then reduces the influence of Eurohound, and the dog should be called the Alaskan Husky cross or mixed dog.

The term "Eurohound" was coined by Ivana Nolke, to distinguish European racing dogs imported into Alaska. Greyhound ÃÆ'â € "cross pointers were created" greysters "and popular for dry land racing, and snow racing limited classes.

Appearance and descent

Because Eurohound is a kind of dog with a carefully raised performance and not a registered kennel club of breeds, its performance will vary. Characteristics of the bookmarks, huskies, and other breeds used in the nursery may appear in dogs. Breeders can target a certain size or coat length for the type of racing they do. "Our pointers and most of our crosses weigh 18-24 kilos" (Egil Ellis).

A common common feature of fifty percent cross is a half-falling, black ears with a blistering white as shown in a photograph, or solid with patches. Some fully visible dogs also appear. As the percentage of the pointer falls, the dogs begin to look more like Alaskan skin.

Alaskan husky race dogs have been reared tightly for appearance, because dog sled starts in Alaska. The German Shorthaired Pointer and English Pointer gene pool are limited by the fact that they are a registered offspring, but they are also raised for appearance; The Scandinavian pointer from which the first Eurohounds came has been used historically for racing and sled dog hunting.

Terminology

Although more accurate and traditionally called "crossbreeding", mating dogs are sometimes referred to wrongly as "hybrids", as fashion trends. Hybrids most commonly refer to one with the parent of two different species or subspecies (but sometimes even genera), distinguish them from crosses, who have offspring of the same species. All dogs, including crossbreeds, even from the same subspecies Canis lupus familiaris , and crossed dogs are not hybridized with other species.
