Since then, this brand has been used for other related products including a mixture of milk flavoring, flavored drinks, flavored syrup, hot chocolate mix, instant breakfast, corn flakes, ice cream novelties and dog food. Histori

Carnation was established as a yawn milk company. With the increasing availability of home refrigeration of fresh milk and cream throughout the 20th century, demand for evaporated milk declined. Carnation diversified its product portfolio after 1950 and was acquired by Nestlà ©  © in 1984 for $ 3 billion.

Elbridge Amos Stuart

Elbridge Amos Stuart (September 10, 1856 in Guilford County, North Carolina-January 14, 1944 in Los Angeles, California) is an American dairy industrialist and evaporative milk maker of the Carnation and his famous slogan, derived from "Contaminated Cows."

On September 6, 1899, Stuart and his business partner established the Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Company in Kent, Washington, and he became its first President (a post he held until 1932, then served as Chairman from 1932 to 1944). Its products are based on a relatively new commercial evaporation process. Stuart believes that there is value in sanitation milk when fresh milk is not universally available and can not always be drunk, and correctly believes that its products will join other staple foods on merchant shelves.

In 1901, his partner sold out, leaving Stuart firm and $ 105,000 in debt. Along with sales growth, Stuart looks for brand names for the product. Passing through a tobaccos window in downtown Seattle, Stuart spotted a cigar display along the mark with the name: Carnation. His own company then adopted the name Carnation Evaporated Milk Company .

One of the most important things Stuart learned on his father's farm was that high-quality milk came from healthy cows; So to ensure the premium standard, he distributes a pure bull raised to a farmer who supplies the factory, whose offspring are selected for milk productivity. Finally, Stuart established a farm, named Carnation Farm, where the application of new farming principles continued to increase the productivity of the herd. Carnation Cattle holds the record for world milk production for 32 consecutive years. One particular cow, Segis Pietertje Prospect, produced 37,381 liters of milk during 1920, and a cow statue was set up to honor this record. The city of Tolt, Washington, later renamed the Carnation, after breeding and research farms nearby.

Ads

In 1907, the promotional phrase "Carnation Condensed Milk, milk from satisfied cattle" was introduced. This slogan refers to higher-quality milk than cows that love to graze in the lush Pacific Northwest. Carnations used this slogan for decades, and it gave birth to a variety radio program entitled "The Contented Hour," featuring entertainers like Dinah Shore, Jane Powell and Burns and Allen. The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show , which aired on CBS television in 1950, sponsored by Carnation. As usual during that era, instead of cutting the advertised film, Burns, Allen, and the guests broke the "fourth wall" to broadcast Carnation products in comedy, often tongue-in-cheek during the show.

Since the 1960s, the label of carnival milk cans contained recipes on the inside.

Rhymes

During the 20th century, Carnation Evaporated Milk became the subject of humorous and satirical rhymes. One example that may date back to 1900 is as follows: Milk Carnation is the best on the ground/Here I sit with a tin in my hand/No breasts to pull, no straw to the field/you just hit hole in the bastard. This Quatrain, or variant of it, is often described by storytellers as the result of a slogan or advertising contest sponsored by the Carnation Company, although such contests never really happen..

Current status

The original Farms Carnation site is located 45 minutes east of Seattle, in Carnation, Washington.

In 2006, NestlÃÆ' Â © sold liquid milk business in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand, including the Carnation brand to F & amp; N.

In 2007, under a separate agreement with Alaska Milk Corporation, NestlÃÆ'Â © will also grant Alaska long-term licenses to produce and sell Carnation Evaporated Creamer, Carnation Condensada and Milkmaid Sweetened Condensed Milk, under the NestlÃÆ'Â © n quality guidelines in the Philippines.

In 2008, Carnation Farms became Camp Korey, part of Hole in the Wall Camps founded by Paul Newman. Camp Korey is a medical camp supervised by staff consisting of doctors and nurses, and camp counselors trained for children living with serious and life-threatening illnesses. The camp provides a week-long experience of camp programs and activities for children aged 7-16 at no cost to them. In 2016, Camp Korey moved from Carnation Farm to a property purchased in Skagit County, and the Stuart family, who bought back farmland from Nestle, are currently developing new programs and activities for agriculture.

In popular culture

For a scene in the 1975 Jaws movie where Ben Benjamin's body emerged out of his stationary boat, director Steven Spielberg resumed filming scenes in the pool editor of Verna Fields. Spielberg poured Carnation's powdered milk into the pond to simulate the murky waters of Martha's Vineyard where the scene was initially shot.
