Cleuder F. AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o JÃÆ'ºnior (born June 24, 1981), known as JÃÆ'ºnior AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o , is a mixed Brazilian martial artist who currently it competes in the Lightweight division. As a professional competitor since 2004, he has competed for UFC, Xtreme Fighting Championships, and King of the Cage.

Biography

Originally from Northeastern Brazil, Junior grew up in Miami, and now lives in Atlanta. He is also the elder brother of Raphael AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' o and Freddy AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o who also fights as a mixed martial artist.

Mixed martial arts career

Junior Assunc? O has earned a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Capoeira. Her professional MMA career has led to extensive training in these disciplines as well as in Boxing, Judo, Muay Thai, and Wrestling. He has been practicing outside the Black House gym (Casa Preta) in Brazil with the likes of the MMA powerhouse Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida.

The junior martial arts foundation is in Capoeira, a battle system in Brazil characterized by acrobatic sweeps, kicks, and butts that rely heavily on core strength. After being trained under Mestre Delei for 12 years, Junior admits his success in combat sports for this discipline. As an instructor, Junior combines many techniques from Capoeira, such as agility, balance, and practical strength.

Amateur career

AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' o o holds the unbeaten 2-0 record as an amateur, and made his debut on May 17, 2003, facing Scotty Johnson at ISCF: May Madness in Midtown. He won the battle through the second-round armbar. In the ensuing amateur battle, AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ'Â| o faced Brendan Dumont in Submission Fighting Open 10 on February 6, 2004. He won the fight through guillotine choke, and will officially become pro in April 2004.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

With a 4-1 record, AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o was signed with the UFC at the end of 2006. AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o face new star Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 64 on October 14, 2006. He lost in the fight through a bare choke round. In the next fight in the promotion, AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o faced David Lee at UFC 70 on April 21, 2007. He won the fight through a back-naked choke.

AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o then face Nate Diaz at UFC Fight Night 11 on September 19, 2007. He lost his fight through guillotine choke, and then released from the promotion.

Xtreme Fighting Championships

After posting 4-1 on the regional circuit, AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ signed with Florida-based Xtreme Fighting Championships promotion. He faced John Mahlow for XFC Lightweight Championship at XFC 10: Night of Champions on March 19, 2010. He won the fight through guillotine choke, and emptied the championship to drop down in heavyweight and re-sign with UFC.

Return to UFC

In 2011, AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ'  £ o re-signed with the UFC. He faces newcomer Eddie Yagin's promotion in the fur fight on September 24, 2011 at UFC 135. AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' £ o went on to win a fight with a round decision.

AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ'  £ o faced Ross Pearson on December 30, 2011 at UFC 141. He lost the battle through a unanimous decision and was later freed from promotion.

Post-UFC career

After the second release of UFC, AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ'  £ o faced Guilherme Faria for PFC Featherweight Championship at PFC 2 on 13 September 2013. She won the fight through kimura.

In his final bout, AssunÃÆ'§ÃÆ' o o faced Alejandro Rodriguez at XFC International 5 on 7 June 2014. He won the battle through a unanimous decision.
