Yorsh (Russian: ??? meaning "Ruffe") is a mixed Russian drink made up of beer mixed with many vodka. Traditionally drunk in social settings, usually with a toast followed by a full glass swallow at a time.
Vodka is a neutral spirit that does not change the taste of beer much, but greatly increases its alcohol content.
Perhaps the first evidence of such a mixture in Russian drinking culture is the Story of Woe and Misfortune, an anonymous 17th century poem. Earlier versions of yorsh described there included mead, however.
