V8 Vegetable Juice , sometimes just called V8 , is a trademarked name for a number of worldwide beverage products made from eight vegetables, or a mixture of vegetables and fruits, fruits. Since 1948, the brand has been owned by Campbell's Soup Company.

The original V8 vegetable juice is tomato based and gets its name from the fact that it contains juice from eight different vegetables.

The original V8 is made primarily from water and tomato concentrate, and a mixture of dissolved vegetable juices: water and concentrates from eight vegetables, especially: beets, celery, carrots, lettuce, parsley, watercress, spinach, and tomato. Tomato juice produces about 87% of the total beverage. Campbell's has produced several types of beverages, such as Original, Spicy Hot, Lemon, Picante, Low-Sodium, and Organic.

Three spin-off brand V8; "V8 Energy," "V8 Splash" and "V8 VoFusion;", are a mixture of fruit and vegetables (especially carrots) juice. V8 Splash is a juice cocktail partially sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and sucralose; the Splash V8 diet version eliminates high fructose corn syrup. V8 Energy also classifies as a cocktail and is partly designed with sucralose. VoFusion is made from 100% juice.

History

V8 Vegetable Juice developed by W.G. Peacock (1896-1948), founder of the New England Products Company, which produces individual vegetable juices under the brand Vege-min. After only mediocre sales success, in 1933 Peacock began to incorporate Vege-min juice into one product and sold this new herb as "Vege-min 8". The grocery store in Evanston, Illinois, suggested that he shorten his name to "V-8". In 1948, Campbell's Soup Company acquired the brand from Charles Loudon Packaging Company in Terre Haute, Indiana, and has maintained a continuous production of beverages to this day.

Derivative Drink

Some cocktails use V8, the most famous is "bloody eight" or "eight ball", which is a Bloody Mary with V8 instead of tomato juice.
