A mixed type is a pet derived from different breeds of the same species, often breeding without human intervention, recording, or selective breeding. Examples include:
- Race dog, a dog whose ancestor is complicated or unknown
- Horse classes, horses whose descendants are unknown, can not be identified, or significantly mixed breeding
- The domestic short-haired cat or long-haired cat with no particular breed, daily called "moggy" or "moggie" in several dialects
