Delta Time â ⬠(also Pit-Stop Delta)
Height Density (often DA )
- (drag racing) which often refers to air quality. Technically "air quality" refers to pressure drops as altitude above sea level increases. The atmospheric atmospheric pressure is lower on a race track higher above sea level. All non-turbocharged internal combustion engines produce lower power when the air pressure drops, as each intake step draws less air per volume than normal. This may require the machine to be "set" to optimize power, as it may still "think" at lower altitudes. Since the supercharged engine presses the incoming air at a fixed mechanical ratio on an RPM engine, the engine will experience a proportional disadvantage, but not as bad as a naturally aspirated engine. The turbocharged engine is very unaffected, because the lower air input density is offset by the downside pressure that holds the discharge stream through the turbo.
- Dial-in
- (drag racing) when the racing bracket, drivers must estimate or "dial in" the time in which they expect to run. Therefore, two heavy cars and unparalleled power can compete, with a defective system. If someone runs faster than contacted, it is a break.
Not Attending (often DNA )
- Shows the drivers that were entered for the race but did not attend the circuit. Sometimes referred to as Not Arriving or just "not appearing".
Not Completed (often DNF )
- A driver who did not finish the race. Some sanctions do not classify a rider in the final result if he does not complete a certain number of rounds, for example in Formula One, a driver must complete 90% of completed laps to be classified as a financier.
Unqualified/Uncategorized (often DNQ/DNPQ )
- Failure to qualify or pre-qualify for the race. Most often because the driver is too slow to make it into a limited number of grid positions, or slower than the 107% rule. View the 107% rule .
Not Start (often DNS )
- A driver who is not trying to compete in a race, even though he may have competed in training sessions and/or qualifying. Not the same as the DNA already mentioned.
- Digger
- dragster (different from a body car or flopper).
- Dirty air
- The air is disturbed by the car as it travels at speed, which can cause aerodynamic difficulties for cars to follow behind. The opposite of clean air .
Unclassified (often NC )
- A driver competes at the end of the race, but does not complete the required distance to be classified.
Video Glossary of motorsport terms
O
- Observer
- Marshal trackside with the highest rank in the post; the ultimate decision-maker in the event of an incident, they convey information to race control. Can be seen standing at the post marshal. Second to Chief Marshal.
- Official
- View Official .
- Oildown
- (drag racing) When the engine or car engine lubrication is damaged while running, leaving traces of oil and other liquids on the track. This can be punished by fines, penalty points, and/or suspension.
Quick 8 (often P8 )
- (drag racing) The eight fastest cars in a given race. Rules seem to vary by location/race.
Maps Glossary of motorsport terms
R
- R.T.
- Abbreviation for " Reaction Time ". In drag races, this refers to the time it takes the driver to leave the starting line after the green light. This time can mean the difference between winning and losing, especially in matches that match.
- Racing Director
- An official designated by a series organizer who holds the highest authority over race operations at every championship event. The director of the race is a senior official presence, and controls the activities of the Registrar of the course and marshals and other staff appointed by the series. When appointed, they hold the responsibility of mobilizing the safety car and starting and stopping the session.
- Racing race
- The fastest path around the circuit.
- Rainout
- When the race is delayed or canceled due to rain, or the threat of rain.
- Rail (or rail job)
- dragster (different from body car or flopper). From the frame rails exposed to the initial car. Usually refers to the initial short-wheelbase car.
- Rail (drag racing)
- guardrail
- Ramp run
- In an exercise rack, to change the engine as far as possible without changing the gear to allow the engine management system to take Lambda readings the ratio of fuel to air across the entire smooth engine span range.
- Rattle gun
- See Impact Wrench.
- Reactive suspension
- The system in which the suspension is controlled by the computer to maintain optimal distance above the racing surface, regardless of the force acting on the car and the changes on the surface of the race, thus maximizing the aerodynamic assistance that can be obtained by running the car close to the ground. Developed initially by Team Lotus in Formula One.
- Redlight (ed)
- (drag racing) a.k.a. bulb (ed) - jump (ed) start, left before the tree turns green. This is a disadvantage unless it is more serious (the opponent crosses the central border) there is a violation.
- Assistive driver
- A driver who fills in for another driver in case of injury, or during a race due to fatigue or illness.
- Restart
- The race begins again after caution or other conditions that stop the race. In terms of starting over from the anniversary period on the oval track and most of the road programs, this is done by a safety car that pulls off the track, the green/light flag is shown, and the car just speeds back up to the speed of the race.
