Canadian Dry is a brand of soft drinks owned since 2008 by American Dr Pepper Snapple Group. For more than a century, Canada Dry has been known for its ginger ale, although the company also produces a number of soft drinks and other mixers. Although Canadian Dry is from Canada, it is now produced in many countries around the world, including the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Japan, & amp; a number of countries in the Middle East & amp; Europe.

"Dry" in the brand name refers to not sweet, as in dry grapes. When John J. McLaughlin, who first formulated Canada's "Dry Pale Ginger Ale", originally made his new soft drink, it was much sweeter than any other ginger beer available; as a result, he labeled "dry".

Histori

In 1890, Canadian pharmacist and chemist John J. McLaughlin from Enniskillen, Ontario, who, after working at a soda factory in Brooklyn, New York, opened a carbonated water factory in Toronto. McLaughlin is the eldest son of Robert McLaughlin, founder of McLaughlin Carriage and McLaughlin Motor Car. In 1904, McLaughlin created "Dry Gale Pale Canada". Three years later, the drink was raised to the Viceregal Household of the Governor General of Canada, and the label featuring the beavers above the Canadian map was replaced with a Crown and a shield now.

When McLaughlin began delivering his product to New York, it became so popular that he opened a factory in Manhattan shortly after. After McLaughlin died in 1914, the company was run briefly by his brother, Samuel McLaughlin. P. D. Saylor and Associates purchased business from the McLaughlin family in 1923 and established Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Inc., a public company.

The popularity of Canada Dry as a mixer begins at the Prohibition, when it seems to help mask the taste of homemade liquor. In the 1930s, Canadian Dry expanded around the world. From 1950 onwards, the company introduced a large number of products.

Norton Simon was interested in the company in 1964, and joined the other Simon ownership, McCall Corporation and Hunt Foods, to form Norton Simon Inc. Dr. Pepper bought Canada Dry from Norton Simon in 1982. In 1984, Dr. Pepper was acquired. by Forstmann Little & amp; The Company, and Canadian Dry are sold to Del Monte Foods unit R. J. Reynolds to pay off the acquisition debt. RJR Nabisco sold its soft drink business to Cadbury Schweppes in 1986. Today, Canada Dry is owned by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, which was separated from Cadbury Schweppes in 2008.
